Kingdom Hearts Cloud?

Why, on Kingdom Hearts One, does Cloud have Vinson's red cape and that skeletal bone hand like Vinson? Why did they have to go and change him? And what happened to Vinson's hand anyway, what's his story? (I know that's two questions, but the first one was kind of rhetorical, but still answer it please.)
