Do you think he still loves me? Why does he do this?

I was with him (alex) for 2 and a half years....we broke up because i wasn't making him my priority and we weren't at the same level,....he was ready to marry me and i wasn't and he was too clingy at the time My past relationsahip was abusive and i was scared to commit again. So anyways i left him almost three years ago and was in another relationship months after..for almost the three yrs he was after me, he cried, he begged and wanted me back but i never listened to him..i knew i had feelings for him but always blocked them out. right when i decide i am in love with him and want to make up for all the pain i caused, he decides to move on....he didnt want to see me anymore..after loving me for over 5 years, he was over me within a couple of days...i asked him a million times if he was over me and he never answered...he said i hurt him a lot and this girl is making him happy and he wldnt hurt her...so we kind of ended communication and i still love him....i have seen him 2x since and he tells me i look very good and asks if im happy with my partner and that if im over him....why does he do this??? why does he act like he cares, if he cared he wld try to work things out with me,....yes i know its my fault but i love him and i wld love nothing more than to be with him......why does he constantly ask me about my relationship and tell me i look good and ask me about school and stuff like that?? hes a great guy but i think hes enjoying the fact that the tables turned
