How do I get rid of ringworm in a cat and dogs?

I have one cat and two dogs who are all infected with ringworm. I have taken them all to the vet, done the oral medicine and the miconazole spray I was given to treat them. After a month and a half with no luck, i am now cleaning the area with rubbing alcohol and treating with over the counter human anti fungal cream. It is working better than what the vet prescribed, but I need something to work better and faster. (about 3 months between the vet and my own method) Has anyone tried the apple cider? I have read that nail polish works well with human, anyone know how it works on animals? Please help. I love my animals and this situation really sucks.
