Can you have a familiar and not be a witch.?

i often go to this website called Witches Tower to read about there stuff that thye do. I have never done any spells or made potions, but i do like to read about the occult and have many question that i like to ask them about such things. i wrote about my new kitten that i just got and had devolped a storng bond with it. the people on withes tower told me that my cat was prollby my familer. i am not a wicht since my family that i live with is christan like uber and i dont' really want to commit myself to anoughter reilgoing so soon. again i havn't done any spells but i will read magic books. i have have encounters with supernatrul forces before though. and have always been drawn to the occult. i don't want to ramble on just trying tot give you as much info as i can.
